One to One / game score
game score from 2012
I am developing a new one-to-one performance - more on that later!
For now, here is an old score from 2012.
One to One
game score
Choose a location, where you would like to play the game. It can be indoors or outdoors.
You can meet a) directly at the location or b) you go to the location together.
If you choose option b), have a small talk on the way, for example: introduce yourself, ask their name, ask if they know this place, ask what they were doing that day. Optionally: give them a choice of where to go (e.g. left or right). In that case, have a few different starting locations prepared in advance. When you reach the location, explain the goal and the rules of the game.
The goal: to create a collaboratively imagined space around you.
The rules: I will add an element to the space and then you will think of something. Then it will be my turn again, and then yours, and so on.Start with an initial proposal, your first imaginary intervention in the space.
For example, if you are in a large parking lot, you could say, imagine all cars are gone, if you are in a narrow corner between buildings, you could say, imagine there is a big swing, if you are inside a room, you could say, there is grass growing on the ceiling. Then, ask the audience to think of another imaginary intervention to the space.
It’s your turn again.
And it’s their turn.
Then it’s your turn. With each new proposal, think of different categories and options. For example, imagine objects, people, atmosphere, stories, or events. Think of different scales and levels of detail. Add to the reality, exchange, or subtract. What other possibilities are there?
Continue exchanging.
The game ends when you are satisfied with what you have built. Let the game end when a shared sense of completion arises.
Sketch what you imagined on the piece of paper.
You can start again and play it differently.
Adjust the rules and choose a different focus. It’s up to both of you to figure out what the game is: what kind of world and logic are you developing and exploring?
